Christianbook

Christianbook.com, or Christian Book Distributors, as I know it, is a great online store for purchasing Christian books. My knowledge of Christianbook goes back to my homeschool days when my mom would order curriculum via Christianbook. Due to my growing love for all things book related, I definitely consider myself a nerd. I believe the roots of my book love began as a child when one of my favorite pastimes (in addition to library trips) would be combing through the latest Christianbook catalog drawing circles around all the books I wanted (and drawing mustaches and beards on a few of the author’s faces, if I’m being honest).

I recently became aware of the book Afraid of All The Things by Scarlet Hiltibidal and wanted to purchase a copy. I was surprised to find one at my local Barnes and Noble but it was $17.99. The penny pincher in me avoids paying the full price for an item whenever possible. The same day I went to purchase the book, I received an email from Christianbook highlighting some deals they had in honor of Independence Day. They were selling Afraid of All the Things for $12.99 which was a much better deal and there was a promo code for free shipping on orders $35 and over. I had a few other books in mind that I had been wanting to purchase and since Christianbook’s prices are often lower than Amazon’s, I decided to add those books to my order to reach the free shipping threshold. I spent $36.45 on this book haul which is a steal considering the total would have been $64.86 if I paid full price for each book. Here are the books I bought and the prices I paid:

Afraid of All the Things: Tornadoes, Cancer, Adoption, and Other Stuff You Need the Gospel For – $13.99

A recent reading of 1 Peter 3:6 convicted me that one area where I need to grow as a wife is in not fearing. As one who battles fear and anxiety, I’ve been really intrigued by the title of this book. I heard Scarlet talk about her book on The Happy Hour Podcast and have been wanting to read it ever since. This book originally sold for $17.99 so I was thankful to find at $4 off the original retail price.

Labor With Hope: Gospel Meditations on Pregnancy, Childbirth, and Motherhood – $13.99

Christianbook

This is the latest book by pastor’s wife, mom, and author Gloria Furman. Whenever I read Gloria’s books my heart is greatly encouraged to love Jesus more. Labor With Hope is so unlike anything I’ve ever read but mirrors so many of my own thoughts about motherhood. I highly recommend this along with all of Gloria’s books. This book was a steal as the original price was $19.90.

Simple Decorating: 50 Tips to Inspire You and Your Home – $1.49

Simple Decorating was a “Threshold Item” for me, one that I was using to reach the free shipping minimum. Since Fixer Upper has been around, I have found that I love learning about all aspects of interior design. I chose this book as a threshold item because it is about a topic I love, written by a Christian, and was a great deal considering the original price was $14.99. I can’t wait to grab The Inspired Room by the same author.

The Berenstain Bears God Shows the Way – $5.49

One of my fondest childhood memories is flipping through my book The Berenstain Bears and the Messy Room while simultaneously listening to it on audio tape (if you’re under 30, you’ll probably need to Google that). I’ve recently begun reading some Berenstain Bears books with my three year old and she loves them. Although God Shows the Way wasn’t around when I was growing up, it is a children’s book I highly recommend. This book contains 3 stories that include the original Berenstain Bears characters. I like that this series also includes Bible verses and themes about trusting God. This book was originally $9.99 so I was excited to find it at almost 50% off.

The New City Catechism for Kids – $1.49

My husband has been wanting to teach our oldest daughter catechisms for a while and this resource provides an easy way for us to do so. I’ve enjoyed using The New City Catechism app for adults so I knew the book for children would be a helpful resource. Some people don’t love this version because it doesn’t contain Scripture references but since our daughter is only three, I don’t mind teaching her these basic truths. I feel that teaching her these catechisms is laying the foundation for Bible knowledge that will come later. If you’re interested in checking this out, there is a free online version for both adults and children that can be found here. This book originally retailed for $1.99 so the savings weren’t huge but it was a great “Threshold Item.”
