I became aware of the book Killing Calvinism a few years ago and decided to purchase a copy, as the title intrigued me. Despite the title, this brief book is actually by a Calvinist to help those who hold to reformed theology do so with charity and humility. The book is just 104 pages, making it a quick read. The tone of the book is one of joy and humility. There is even a bit of humor within Killing Calvinism that made me laugh out loud multiple times. This was a good reminder of the great joy to be had in the pursuit of theology.
At times, the book did mention winning people to Calvinism, which, considering the author’s positions on it, made sense. However, as Christians, I do believe our primary aim should be winning people to a Person, not a position. I believe the author would agree, but how he wrote about winning people to Calvinism made this a bit unclear. The book is convicting and, regardless of how you feel about Calvinism, I think you’ll find it encouraging. Overall, the book is a must read for anyone who professes to be a Calvinist or is curious about the concept of Calvinism.
