DIY Lotion Recipe

My DIY lotion recipe is comprised of a few other recipes I’ve found and contains all natural ingredients. I’ve finally tweaked the ingredients enough to get a lotion that I enjoy using. This lotion isn’t what you’d expect compared to traditional liquid lotion. It is slightly greasy since it’s made mostly of oils and butters but it is rich and deeply moisturizing. I like using organic ingredients just to give the product a bit more quality but that is completely optional. This lotion recipe can be applied as a salve for scratches, applied to chapped lips, and used to soothe diaper rashes. It is also great for sensitive skin types. Making things yourself can seem timely and intimidating but since I’ve been making my own lip balm for a while now, making lotion was easy (it’s essentially the same ingredients and steps!). This lotion smells great and provides lasting moisture making it an easy gift idea or the perfect way to treat yourself!

Directions

  1. Fill a sauce pan half way with water
  2. Place an empty glass jar in the center of the pan
  3. Add all ingredients to the glass jar EXCEPT for the essential oils
  4. Turn the burner on medium heat
  5. Occasionally stir the mixture (the beeswax and honey will take the longest to dissolve)
  6. Once the ingredients have all dissolved, remove the mixture from the heat
  7. Optional: Add essential oils and stir the mixture
  8. Pour the mixture into silicone molds or small jars (some of the honey will remain at the bottom of the jar, avoid pouring this into your smaller jars or molds)
  9. Allow the mixture to cool prior to use (you can also place the lotion in the fridge)
  10. Use lotion as desired
