Dove Deo Refills is a new aluminum free deodorant by Dove. I was excited to try this product especially during the summer in Texas. I appreciate that Dove is sensitive to its various consumers and has deodorants both with and sans aluminum. A few years ago, I made the switch to using aluminum free deodorant after learning that there is a potential link between aluminum and breast cancer. Having two family members who have suffered through breast cancer has made me want to be wise about what I put in and on my body. Although I have yet to learn of any direct links between aluminum and breast cancer, I figured making the switch to aluminum free deodorant is a small, and easy price to pay when it comes to my health.
The Dove Deo Refill system is unique in that the starter kit comes with a case for the deodorant and one deodorant refill. The price for the kit is $14.99 at Target and $9.99 for a pack of two refills (making each refill $4.98). At 1.13 ounces each the refills are pretty small compared to a traditional Dove deodorant stick which is 2.6 ounces. I received the Dove Deo Refill system in the cucumber & green tea scent and I LOVE how it smells. The scent is light and fresh and not overpowering. I think the idea of refillable deodorant is innovative especially for those who care to consider the environmental impact of their deodorant containers. For close to the price of the refill pack, I can purchase my deodorant of choice for a few dollars more and receive a bit more product. I also like that my deodorant comes in a travel size making it convenient to carry in my purse. I’m thankful to have received this product for testing purposes but don’t see myself making it a regular part of my hygiene routine.
