Ever Faithful is the latest in the Vintage National Parks Novel series by Karen Barnett. The book revolves around the lead character Elsie who works at Yellowstone National Park during the time of the Great Depression. Although she desires to go to college, it has taken Elsie a bit longer than expected to save for it. She is assigned to be the teacher for a group of men participating in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). Although Elsie has a park ranger named Teddy Vaughn vying for her affections, she begins to develop feelings for one of the CCC men named Nate. Elsie has a secret though and hurt she carries from the past and is hesitant to open up to Nate.

Ever Faithful

Coming from a troubled background, Nate likes Elsie but is fearful about her knowing who he really is. In the midst of the relationship tensions, there are also fires occurring randomly within the park, or so it seems. Ever Faithful was a clean, enjoyable read and it fondly reminded of the annual visits my family takes to a national park similar to Yellowstone. I liked that this story had multiple elements and especially enjoyed the mystery toward the end.

I really enjoy US history so the historical aspect of this story was a fun element. I also really liked that Elsie is character who desires to attend college and works to save money for her tuition. It seems that would have been atypical for a woman during that time period although I’m sure many would have loved to have such opportunities.

Overall, I enjoyed Ever Faithful and look forward to reading the rest of the books in the series.

I received Ever Faithful compliments of WaterBrook in exchange for my honest review.
