Christian Podcast Recommendations

Christian podcasts are a tremendously helpful resource, but they aren’t a substitute for Christian disciplines and as such, must be held loosely regarding their authority and priority in one’s life. For the sake of clarity and transparency, I would like to note that I haven’t listened to every single episode of each podcast I’ve mentioned. While I share many of the same theological positions of the podcast hosts and their guests, I don’t necessarily endorse every single theological position discussed on each podcast or held by each host, nor do I endorse the theological stances and/or ministry of each individual ever interviewed. As with my book reviews, I encourage you to know and treasure the Bible and use that as the lens through which you discern things, including the truth and wisdom offered in podcasts.

Christian podcasts have been a great blessing to me in this season of motherhood and this season of life. I have benefitted greatly from listening to a rotation of godly people as they share insights I hadn’t considered before and point my heart to precious truths. These podcasts and the recommended episodes, in particular, have really encouraged me as of late and it is my joy to share them with you! I hope you will be as encouraged by them as I have been.

Adorned Podcast

Recommended Episode: Matthew 1-2

This podcast is near and dear to my heart because I have had the privilege of being personally involved with Adorned Ministries. I was honored to have a post about Mom Guilt published on their blog earlier this year and I’ve enjoyed getting to know the ladies who run Adorned Ministries. I love the heart of the hosts to help women know and cherish God by knowing and treasuring His word!

Alisa Childers

Recommended Episode: A Gay Man’s Story of Redemption with Beckett Cook

While I appreciate many aspects of the Christian apologetics movement, I have many hesitancies regarding it. It often seems to be more about winning debates than winning souls which leaves much to be desired. Alisa Childers, however, has demonstrated differently. When I first heard Alisa share about the deconstruction and reconstruction of her faith, I was shocked by how kind, gentle, and gracious she was. She exudes gentleness, grace, and truth in her speech and writing and I’m thankful to have her as an example. Her podcast primarily focuses on apologetics and how to counter the lies of the progressive Christian movement with the truth of the Bible. I have enjoyed listening to her analyze cultural ideals from a biblical lens with a lovely balance of truth and grace.

Ask Pastor John

Recommended Episode: How Do I Overcome My Fear of Death?

Ask Pastor John isn’t necessarily a podcast in which I listen to every single episode. This is a podcast I use as more of a reference when I have questions about the Bible or how the Bible informs certain aspects of life. Learning of this podcast was an unexpected blessing of the coronavirus shelter in place orders. When the orders went into effect here in Texas, Ava had a fever which terrified me. We searched three stores looking for a decent thermometer and were unable to find one. Considering whether or not to bring her to urgent care also proved to very distressing. I was tempted to fear for her life and when I listened to the episode on not fearing death, my heart was so comforted with the goodness and sovereignty of God.

Becoming Something

Recommended Episodes: Quarantine Cold Calls: Costi Hinn, Sex

I stumbled upon Becoming Something when Costi Hinn mentioned it on his Instagram account. My husband and I have really enjoyed listening to this podcast for twenty and thirty-somethings. Each episode focuses on a topic that young adults are either dealing with or have questions about. I really appreciate the wisdom that the hosts offer. I love that they constantly remind their listeners to hold their words loosely and encourage them to know their Bibles.

Crossway

Recommended Episodes: Navigating Conflict in Marriage, Are Christians More Divided Now Than Ever?

Crossway is one of my favorite book publishers and I’ve really enjoyed their podcast. The episodes consist of interviews with authors as well as discussions on theological topics.

God’s Big Story

Recommended Episode: Jesus Walks on Water

This podcast for kids released earlier this year from The Village Church. Adalyne loves listening to the Bible stories as well as the songs at the end. I’ve turned this on while taking trips in the car and I love that in addition to buying me some silence and sanity, it helps my kids grow in their knowledge of who God is. Although the intended audience for this podcast is children, I’ve found myself encouraged by the lessons too! The recommended episode premiered prior to the shelter in place orders here in Texas and the reminder that we can trust God was so timely and comforting for my heart.

Hope + Help Podcast

Recommended Episode: Hope + Help for Raising Young Children

The Hope + Help podcast is hosted by author Christine Chappell. I had the privilege of meeting Christine at the Spurgeon’s Sorrows conference and then again at the signing for her book, Clean Home, Messy Heart. I love Christine’s heart for addressing mental illness and related issues from a biblical perspective. Her podcast interviews consist of conversations with authors as well as biblical counselors.

Help Me Teach the Bible

Recommended Episode: Why Middle Eastern Women Want to Teach the Bible

This is my current favorite Christian podcast and I think it largely has to do with the fact that it’s hosted by a female Bible teacher. There seems to be an extreme complementarian belief permeating evangelical circles that women are never permitted to teach the Bible which is simply not true. There are many contexts in which women may teach the Bible and in order to do so, they must know and treasure it. In this podcast, Nancy Guthrie helps all Bible teachers grow in their gifting as she interviews individuals of various backgrounds. I especially love that Nancy is working toward recording at least one episode covering each book of the Bible. This podcast is a tremendous blessing and a very helpful resource for anyone desiring to teach the Bible or grow in their love of it.

Home Row

Recommended Episodes: Champ Thornton on Writing, The Sin of Platforming

This podcast marries two of my favorite things: Christianity and writing. I’m not sure how it gets any better. The host of Home Row is Jeff Medders, a young pastor who is also a Texan. Jeff is also the author of one of my favorite books, Humble Calvinism. If you are curious about becoming a Christian author or learning more about the Christian book publishing process, I highly recommend checking out Home Row.

Knowing Faith

Recommended Episode: A Generous Complementarianism

I am a HUGE fan of Jen Wilkin. Meeting her in person earlier this year was quite a blessing! I first became familiar with her in 2015 when she spoke at the Revive Conference. She speaks, teaches, and writes in such a way that makes me want to grow in my knowledge of Christ and treasure the Bible for all it’s worth. On this podcast, she is joined by pastors Kyle Worley and JT English. I really enjoy listening to the rapport between the hosts as they exude what it looks like to be brothers and sisters in Christ. This podcast is fun and educational and rather than just focusing on head knowledge there is an emphasis on heart knowledge too!

Let’s Talk

Recommended Episode: Overcoming Church Hurt

This is a new podcast for women from The Gospel Coalition. The hosts Jackie Hill Perry, Jasmine Holmes, and Melissa Kruger discuss topics that are affecting Christian women in the church today. I appreciate that they take turns hosting the episodes. It is interesting to hear how they process through issues and I am grateful for their humility in being honest about where and how they sin. When I listen to Let’s Talk, I feel like I’m amongst sisters who are sympathetic to issues that women in the church are facing and I’m encouraged to keep pressing on in faith.

Redeeming Truth

Recommended Episode: Why We Don’t Sing Bethel Music in Our Church

This podcast is hosted by the pastors of Redeemer Bible Church in Gilbert, AZ. I first became familiar with it by following pastor Costi Hinn on Instagram. I appreciate that these men approach tough topics with a wonderful balance of truth and grace. Learning from their example has been helpful to me as I seek to cultivate the same godly values in my life. In the particular episode recommended, I don’t necessarily hold to all of the convictions that are mentioned. However, I think we can all benefit from learning to distinguish between conviction and command and how to properly address something we might disagree with within our respective churches.

Risen Motherhood

Recommended Episodes: Growing in God’s Word as a Mom of Little Ones, Body After Baby

Risen Motherhood is an encouraging podcast for mothers of young children. I’ve been encouraged and convicted by these podcasts episodes and appreciate how they address so many aspects of motherhood through the lens of the gospel.

The Paul Tripp Podcast

Recommended Episode: Ask Paul Tripp – Should Christians Be On Social Media?

I’ve enjoyed the wisdom and ministry of Paul Tripp for a few years. Although I have yet to complete one of his books, I’ve read bits and pieces of them and have enjoyed a parenting class of his that my church hosted. I appreciate that Paul Tripp is honest about the struggles Christians face and faithfully points them to Scripture when it comes to addressing those struggles.

30 Minutes With the Perrys

Recommended Episode: What’s Up With Christian Men Not Wanting to Commit?

30 Minutes With the Perrys is pure fun. I laugh, I cry (from laughing so hard), and I’m encouraged as I listen to Preston and Jackie Perry discuss topics that are important to Christians. I truly appreciate their honesty and wit and feel that if my husband and I were to ever host a podcast, our conversations would be very similar. Jackie and I have many things in common and I like to think that if I knew her in real life, she would be a dear friend.

Wrath and Grace

Recommended Episodes: The Inklings: A Theology of Friendship, Kanye’s Sunday Service: An Interview With Pastor Adam Tyson

This podcast is actually one of my husband’s favorites. I wanted to include it on this list though because the two recommended episodes were really enjoyable and very helpful. These episodes are generally longer which has made it a bit more difficult to listen to them in this season but I’m very blessed by the grace and wisdom these men offer their listeners.
