When I learned that I would be receiving the Covergirl #NationalBFFDay VoxBox from Influenster, I was excited to check out the products. I often used Covergirl products when I was in high school and haven’t really used them in recent years so I was curious to see how they would hold up to their claims. My VoxBox came with three products: eyeliner, waterproof mascara, and long-lasting lipstick. I don’t wear makeup every day so I decided to test out the lipstick and eyeliner on one day and the mascara on a different day simply because I forgot I had it. Below are my reviews of each individual product.

1. Lash Blast Fusion Water Resistant (Black)

Upon applying this mascara, one thing I liked about it is the brush. The brush works well at separating lashes and the mascara went on smoothly without any clumps which I really appreciated. However, the mascara didn’t do much for my eyelashes other than make them appear darker. On the day I tried the mascara, my husband called me with some sad news which resulted in me crying. I noticed that the mascara came off almost immediately. When I’ve used waterproof mascaras in the past, they’ve stayed in place regardless of the source of the water. I prefer to use Honest Beauty Mascara which isn’t waterproof but has surprisingly resisted water at times. In addition to also being clump-free, it also adds volume. The Covergirl Lash Blast Fusion mascara packaging claims that it adds up to 10 times the volume and length yet the packaging doesn’t detail how Covergirl arrived at that conclusion. The words “up to” are concerning to me as they are vague and unsubstantiated. The Covergirl Lash Blast Fusion Water Resistant mascara sells for around $8.99 which to me seems a bit pricey for a mascara that doesn’t live up to its name. I’m thankful to have received this product but don’t see myself adding it to my beauty lineup.

2. Perfect Point Plus Eyeliner (Black Onyx)

I rarely wear eyeliner because I feel that it makes me appear older but I did enjoy using this one. I love that it is more like a crayon than a pencil so it doesn’t require sharpening. The tip opposite of the eyeliner is a smudge tool which I liked too because it allowed me to blend the eyeliner in smoothly. When purchasing products that go on my body, I like to use the EWG Skin Deep Database to see how products might impact my health. I prefer purchasing products that are in the 1-2 range and contain a lower level of potential toxicity. This eyeliner rates as a 5 and since I don’t typically wear eyeliner, I don’t see myself making this a regular beauty purchase.

3. Outlast All-Day Lip Color with Topcoat

I received this liquid lipstick in shade 621 – Natural Blush. I really like the shade but the product overall just isn’t for me. The system involves applying the lipstick and then a topcoat. I do appreciate that the topcoat is super moisturizing however, the moisture didn’t last long. After just a few minutes, my lips felt very dry. Like the Lashblast packaging, this packaging also contains the words “up to” except this product claims to last for up to 24 hours. Again, this is another claim that is vague and unsubstantiated which as a consumer, makes me feel that I am being lied to. Although I enjoyed testing out this product and really like the shade, I won’t be adding it to my beauty lineup.
