Goodwill Book Haul August 2022

My new hobby as of late is thrifting for books, especially doctrinally sound Christian books! My husband was in school pursuing a certification in Project Management which left me wanting to find something to do with my kids while he was in class. He recently finished a class that lasts all day on Saturdays so I thought it would be fun to take the kids with me to some local thrift shops including our local Goodwill. I’ve been to our Goodwill many times and while it’s not necessarily my favorite thrift store, it is close and convenient and we’ve found some fun things there.

I browsed the book section and was surprised by what I found because it usually hasn’t had anything exciting by my standards. Here are the books I found from Goodwill and what I paid:

Unfolding Grace – $3.99

This title contains 40 devotionals that take readers through the story of Scripture. Each devotion in Unfolding Grace begins with encouragement and a passage of Scripture in the ESV translation. This book was released from Crossway in 2020 and costs $18.27 on Amazon. My copy is in excellent condition with no internal markings and a few minor external blemishes. This was my favorite find out of this book haul.

Faith That Does Not Falter – $3.99

Goodwill

I’ve only read one of Elisabeth Elliot’s books and I’ve been greatly encouraged by her life story. I was excited to find this lovely compilation that includes excerpts from her previous works in a pretty format. My heart has found comfort in the writings in the excerpts I’ve read so far and I look forward to completing this volume.

The Nancy Drew Files Case 1: Secrets Can Kill – $1.99

As a teen, I read all of the original Nancy Drew mysteries and I love finding vintage editions of later stories. I enjoy reading these mysteries because the content is clean and the stories are suspenseful without being scary. I also enjoy the challenge of trying to solve a mystery. I read a few of The Nancy Drew Files books last year and I look forward to reading this one too!

Where the Red Fern Growns – $1.99

I don’t recall if I’ve read this classic, but I somehow know how it ends. I liked that this was an older edition with well-worn pages. One of the ways I’ve decorated my home is with older books so I love that this copy is perfect for that. I’m hoping to implement this book into our homeschool curriculum one day when my kids are old enough to read it.

This Goodwill book haul was a small one but I still consider it successful because of what I found and what I paid for each book. What book deals are you currently excited about?
