Lifeway Haul May 2019

LifeWay

In case you missed it, LifeWay, the Christian bookseller and publisher will be closing all of its brick and mortar stores by the end of the year. I used to not care much for LifeWay because some of the authors they contract with aren’t theologically solid and it disappointed me to see women reading books by such authors and relying on them for biblical knowledge, rather than the Bible. Somehow though I ended up receiving emails from LifeWay with coupons for free products. By redeeming these coupons I first set foot into my local LifeWay store. I was actually impressed by the store’s overall selection and now enjoy shopping there. I recently visited our LifeWay to see if they had begun liquidation after seeing Jackie Hill Perry post to her Instagram stories about the amazing deals they were offering.

While our local Austin store won’t begin liquidation until September 1st they still had some great sales. It was fun to find solid resources at affordable prices. My shopping trip served as a somber reminder to pray for LifeWay employees as their livelihoods are affected by the closing of the stores. The sweet cashier who assisted me reminded me that God always provides. She is totally right and Addie and I prayed for her and her coworkers on our drive home. If you’ve been around here for some time, you know I love books and I love coupons so I thought I’d combine my love for both and share our LifeWay book haul. Everything we purchased was on sale and we signed up for LifeWay coupons via text and received and received an additional 10% off of everything. Before tax, our total would have been $147.92 but our total including tax was $76.01!

Books

Eight Twenty-Eight – $1.80

I became familiar with this story via this video I saw a few years ago. The way Ian and Larissa Murphy honor Christ in their marriage despite the many challenges they’ve faced is so beautiful. I cried just watching the video and I can’t wait to dive into their full story. This book is normally $15.99 so at less than $2 this certainly was a steal.

New Morning Mercies – $10.34

I’ve heard so many good things about this book and the price was phenomenal for a newer release that is hardback (the retail price for this one is $22.99). Paul David Tripp actually wrote this devotional based on thoughts he was sharing via Twitter. It’s short, simple, and has a reading for each day of the year. The Type A personality in me had a momentary struggle with starting it in June since it begins in January but I’ve been reading it anyway and it has been very encouraging.

Regandoodle & Little Buddy Welcome Baby – $9.44

This cute tale is based on Reagandoodle, the dog of Instagram fame, and his owner’s grandchildren Little Buddy & Baby Girl. You can read my full review here. The book retails at $14.99 but was on sale for 30% and our 10% off coupon took about $1.04 off the sale price.

The Better Mom Devotional – $6.12

This was another steal from the clearance shelf. This book retails for $16.99 so it was another was more than 50% off. I’m not a huge fan of devotionals but so far, this one has been sweet and encouraging in this busy season of motherhood.

The Read-Aloud Family – $6.12

I’ve followed homeschool mom Sarah Mackenzie on Instagram for a while. Her heart for reading aloud to her children has always inspired me to want to establish similar practices with my family. I’ve been wanting her book and when I saw that it was marked down at 50% off, I had to snag it. Before deciding to purchase this book, I did a quick check on Thriftbooks from my phone and since they had no used copies, I decided to purchase it from LifeWay. The book originally retailed for $16.99 so at $6.12 it ended up being over 50% off!

Toys

Jesus & Friends Wood Play Set – $14.99

When Addie saw this set in the store, she asked me if she could get it. I did think it was cute but I really didn’t want to buy more toys for her because she already has so many. I called my husband to see what he thought and he told me to bless her, so I did (I just love my husband!). This set was $29.99 which I would never have paid so I’m thankful we found it marked down at 50% off. I’m excited to use this for Easter next year to help Addie better understand the Easter story. This playset came with a short but helpful booklet explaining the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection making it a really useful resource.

Melissa & Doug “Time to Eat” Playset – $10.79

This is another toy that Addie asked for in store. It was originally $19.99 but was on sale for 40% off. She only has one baby doll and has been wanting some accessories for it. So far she has used this set almost daily and enjoys feeding her doll and taking care of it which has been really sweet to see.

Media

Veggietales: Sweetpea Beauty DVD – $4.50

Sweetpea Beauty has been Addie’s introduction to VeggieTales. She has really been into beauty lately talking about hairstyles and makeup so I’m thankful that we found this movie. This tale is essentially Cinderella but it uses Bible verses to teach children about God’s heart for inner beauty. I’ve enjoyed using this story as a catalyst for talking to Addie about how her heart is what determines her beauty.
